Cabling in back boiler pipe run

Hi all,
I am doing a renovation project and I am lifting floor boards in a room above a fire place. The house has a back boiler so I have exposed the back boiler pipe runs. I can see where they enter a void which I imagine connects them to a spot where the heat of the fire can reach them. I see a cable in this duct. Is this normal? See pic. I let a fire last night to see how hot it gets there and it gets warm but not very hot. IMG_20240830_193621.jpg

The image above shows insulated pipes, so that will not be where the heat exchange takes place. Those pipes are likely just running to or from the heat exchanger or other heating pipes.
