Cable and Phone line ?

Hi
Sorry if this is a stupid question but here it goes : “ Do I need the phone line wire to my house if I have Cable TV Broadband Wire also ? “ ... we don’t have or need a landline phone... just need broadband and cable tv.
Many thanks for any info.
 
What do you mean by Cable TV Broadband Wire ?

People often confuse how the signals get into their house and router

Well I have a thick gray cable feeding into house from the roof and then separately there is a very old single black wire coming from Eir pole feeding to the house , I think this wire just ends up at a dormant phone point.
 
Sounds like you’re not using it, but I’m not sure I’d rip it out either. The next owner of your house may prefer to use it for broadband (fibre to the cabinet can be quite fast over that old cable these days) or want a fixed phone line for various reasons.

Definitely an argument for not putting phone lines into new houses though. Even your cable TV wire is obsolete compared to the fibre Eir/SIRO are running into houses these days.
