buying unlocked mobile phone off ebay - compatability ?

I'm thinking of buying a phone off a UK vendor on ebay. It says the phone is not locked to any network, but I'm assuming that means any UK network. Is it likely that it will work with an Irish sim card? Anyone any experience?

check the band with i.e is it triband if so you are fine allowing that it was not used on the orange network i think ??

but 900 1800 are fine here, i can't remember the other one off hand.

An unlocked phone bought in the UK will work here. Have in the past bought reconditioned phones in UK on a particular network, and then had it unlocked, and it's worked perfectly over here.
