buying uk car

I thinking off buying a car over in england after the vrt has changed. It will be a diesel up to £8000. I plan to keep it for 6 months and then sell it on. Any suggestions on any car that will sell quickly over this side of the water. Ideally the car will have lost little or no value over this time (when selling in Ireland). Looking at a 05 avensis or a 04 jaguar X-type. Any ideas on how well these cars would resell after 6 months, or any other car suggestions.

stick to the popular diesels that sell well (ie. Avensis/Audi A4/320d/Passat/Corolla)

try to get a good spec and with the Audi/BMW best to look for leather and climate control

choice of colour is also important, but to be honest I don't see you picking up a bargain with these cars over there unless you are very lucky
