Buying TVs in the North

So, are you saying that a TV with a UHF tuner will pick up all terrestrial Irish channels? If so, great. If not, slight problem, unless you only want to use a cable/satellite link.

Please clarify.

I also don't get what you mean by "ask your cable supplier before you buy up north" - why?

to my knowledge, rte transmit all stations on both uhf and vhf, still using vhf to serve older people with old sets, however, the number is dwindling rapidly so no vhf pretty soon.

if your going to buy a tv why bother with vhf, unless you use cablelink or subsidary for your cable tv supply.

ask cable supplier.

well, your cable supplier will have to confirm what they supply you with, vhf or uhf .
if your cable supplier supplies uhf a set purchased up north will be fine, simple really.

additionally, if you own a vhs recorder bought in the republic, it will have both vhf/uhf capabilities so you can use that to feed your tv. it's output to your tv will be in uhf if it detects your tv is uhf or alternatively vhf if it detects that.

realistically, we should buy in our own jurisdiction, enough money is leaving the country through the huge uk retailers, who buy as little as they can here.

when m&s rebuilt their stores, or built new ones outside of shopping centres, the building crew were brought in from the uk, all the building materials were brought in daily by truck on the ferry, the exception being wet mixed concrete, only because they had to.

support your local stores or the big chains will be the only place to buy and they will dictate prices.
