buying jewellery on internet

have been looking for a particular kind of pearl necklace for a while in shops and can't find what I want. Now looking at sites on the internet, but I'm afraid of spending auite a large amount of money and being ripped off. Any idea how I'd know my pearls are genuine, before buying them?

Can you get certified pearls like you can with diamonds? Ask some of the big diamond traders on Ebay, I'm sure they would point you in the right direction. Or ring a jewellers and ask them what to look for etc.
