they dont provide cash but effect payments to one place or another, better rates

I'm looking for the same information. It's difficult to know what you're getting, because every service that moves money makes it a point to cloud their site w/ marketing, and forcing users to dig through the site map and faqs to find out what the fees are. Even when you know the fees, you don't really know which interbank rate they get, and how much they inflate that rate to arrive at a retail exchange rate.

Below are some sites that I have seen recommended in various expat forums.

One-way specialists:

Forex:

The sites that specialize in one-way conversions are designed for convenience and seem to target laypeople who don't necessarily know all the ways to hide fees (eg. they don't even mention spreads, and use percentages as a unit rather than pips) -- so I'm not tempted to trust them. All the hand-holding gives me the impression that they're probably charging more than a forex broker. OTOH, some forex brokers require you to use leverage (trade more money than you have), and they aren't up front about the requirement.

try currency.ie too, based in ireland. Ive checked moneybookers and they charge 3.5% so are probably more expensive than the banks which aint easy
