Buying an apartment in Nice, France

I am interested in buying an apartment in Nice, primarily for my own use as a holiday home. I would also consider letting during periods when I am not using it. I have little knowledge about buying and renting in France and would be interested in viewing trustworthy websites that could offer sound advice. Can anyone recommend appropriate websites?

We bought apartment in Nice last year for similar use as you. We did it by surfing the web and arranging our own visit to Nice. We had a person that did help us there. Riviera is a frequent poster here, he is in the property buisness in Nice and he may be of help. We did not use his services and are not connected to him or his company. Best of luck! Is that bad? Are you sceptical of Riviera's ability/intent? I am interested in anywhere in France as long as it's not leaseback.

Im sure Bougyes immobilier have something in Nice. Very good company, great track record.
Not sure if they have management services etc - but if they dont and you want to rent, Beware of tricky management companies who promise you X and deliver Y. Make sure your rent is going into your account and not your account via the management companies account, and analyse thoroughly any contracts you sign with them.

If you buy through Bougyes I know their paperwork is all very good as it is regulated by the government and very protective for the buyer.

I just think there are a lot of people who post on AAM who do so purely for their own benefit/purposes and to promote their business interests.

If you're planning to buy in France, as we did, do your own research and take advice from those with vested interests with caution and a dollop of salt.
 


There's www.angloinfo.com which has a fairly detailed guide to everything you need to know about the Riviera and France.

www.fnaim.fr French estate agent's union, they publish property statistics by region and city. Its all in French, except for 2 or 3 old reports.

Most good property sales or rental site have guides about the areas of Nice (and the Riviera), property buying process in France and general info. The best restaurant guides are in the property sites!

Some general bits of advice:
-If you rent it out long-term, buy rental insurance, so that if the tenant decides not to pay, you're covered. This can be a big issue, but insurance is cheap and it solves the problem.
-Don't go on viewing trips organised by an estate agent. You won't have space to breath with all the pressure put on you.
-Make sure everyone you deal with in the transaction speaks English

Though Riviera may have some vested interest in properties in Nice, and he has always openly claimed so, he at least provides good & helpful free information to potential overseas buyers.
 
I did some research about buying in Nice. See last post in this thread.
Opted out because of limited potential IMO.
