Buying a TV - confused on the terminology

Hi,

I am looking at buying a TV, and am a bit puzzled by all the terminology - like HD Ready / Full HD / Digital TV ready etc.
What I would like is :
- A TV to just watch TV and DVDs on (i.e. no playing PS3 etc games on it).
- For size, am thinking 26” or 32” LCD. If I sat about 2 or 3m from the TV, would 32” seem too big?
So is HD Ready the same as Full HD? Does HD matter – like if I have DVDs which aren’t HD, then does it matter if the TV is HD or not? If I got an NTL package, is that HD?
Also, I’ve heard Digital TV is coming. Should most TVs be digital-ready, or is that something extra to look out for?
Are there other basic questions I should ask – e.g. about contrast / PC & scart inputs etc?
Thanks!

HD does make much difference until you get to 40+ inches.

UPC is not HD.

If you use an arial you should get a TV with a MPEG4 decoder, this is (supports
) HD and is the new irish digital standard and is already unoffically in use. Most current good makes will already support it.

Wait until after the world cup, there is currently a markup on prices.

32 Inches is fine. Dont worry about the rest of the stuff, anything which supports MPEG4 should be good.
