Hi Guys,

Im looking to buy a basic laptop (for my mum and dad, email, internet access only) is anyone aware of good deals on laptops happening in Dublin right now?

Yeah, another Dell user here. Minimal risk with them...

PS Computers are so powerful now that if your folks will only be using it for surfing the web, using Word etc. then the lowest spec will be fine.

Get at least 512 MB RAM though...

Dell outlet are currently offering 80 euro off and free delivery. There are a few well spec'd 640M and 6400 systems around 700-800.

Just bought a low(ish) spec Dell laptop for my mother (as an 80th birthday present!) She's thrilled... thinks surfing is great! Agree with other posts, whatever you buy will be out of date in two years anyway so no need to waste money if the demands on it will be minimal e.g. surfing, email, word-pr etc.

we procured maybe 20 IBM think pads over the last while in our co. Mine has to go for its 2nd "service" in 4 months 1. Mouse pad had own mind, 2. FAN error LT will not power up as result.

2 others crashed and 1 or 2 others have given problems...

5 in 20 issues over 6-10 months.

You can guess what my advice would be on this product iM SURE.

check out www.ebay.ie

once you know your ideal make/model/spec and are prepared tp purchase a 1-2 yr old model then you'll grab a bargin
I'd be very careful about buying a laptop or any relatively high value item on eBay. Check out the seller's reputation, the ancillary charges that might apply and what, if any, comeback you might have.
