Hi, I recently saw a local ad for a solicitor in Co. Kerry that was offering their services when purchasing a house at a fixed rate / fee.

Unfortunately, I can longer find the ad! (I have searched all local press repeatedly and to no avail).

If anyone knows of a solicitor in the Kerry region offering fixed rate services I would really appreciate it. (we were going to use Rea's offer of 499euro + VAT) but feel it would be better to have someone more local.

Many thanks....

[broken link removed] are based in Listowel. I seem to recall discussions about this service here on Askaboutmoney.com - you might find them if you search. I've never used the service, nor spoken to anyone who has so I can't comment.

Rea's offer is not a fixed fee rate, as such. They collect a mortgage commission and use this to cross-subsidise the legal fee in order to reduce it to the above figure. However the fee itself will be much higher. I'm not aware of any solicitor on Ireland who offers conveyancing services for as low as €499 plus VAT.

Many solicitors in Kerry ( including myself) operate conveyancing on a fixed fee. I would suggest that you contact someone locally who is recommended to you and ask for a quote.

Some non fixed fee solicitors can work out cheaper than the fixed fee offers. Bear in mind that the quoted charges are normally solicitor's professional conveyancing fee plus outlays plus VAT. Outlays can easily be the same as the professional fee or more so €999 or whatever could easily become €2K when all is said and done. Of course you should not shop around for a solicitor on price alone.

Thanks very much - this website is proving a godsend, I'll certainly be advising others to visit here. Appreciate the responses, thanks.
