Hi, Just recently bought a house and am going through the motions at the moment.....the seller's solicitor has issued the contract and the mortgage offer letter from AIB has now also been sent to the solicitor.

I read someplace that the land registry price hike for my house will be €275 (yet another stealth tax increase in the rip-off banana republic :-/ )

Anyone know if I still have enough time to avoid this tax increase? My solicitor says this is going to be difficult but I'm not sure if he is as concerned about the costs as I am.

I'm already really annoyed how I, along with all other Irish working population, are footing the bill to cover AIB's insolvency while ECB rates are falling and AIB interest rates, ironically enough, are rising.....

Thanks but not the question I was asking.

My question relates to the length of time it will take for the purchase to go through. Will I have enough time to close the deal before the Land Registry hike rip-off takes effect?

How should we know? Depends on so many things out of your control that there's no way to tell.

ask your solicitor theyll know better than anyone when the closing date will be.

You are cutting it very close. If the seller stipulates 4 weeks after they sign the contract itll be very close. You sign then they sign and then the 4 weeks starts, and that will only start if the solicitor is happy with everything.

It is the solicitors job to find problems with the sale, things like lien on the property for example. It is not in their interest to rush this step and miss something.
