I have read about buyers agents - has anyone used them and can they remember the name of the company in Dublin that was featured in the Sunday Times recently.

Thanks

Sorry I cant answer your question but I am interested in this too. Would a buyers agent actually get the house at a lower price ??

As far as I know they'd find suitable houses within your budget and do all the negotiations with the Estate Agent - for a fee.
If you're not confident negotiating then yeah, they could possibly get it for cheaper than you could yourself.

Yep - I read that Sunday Times article too. Here is the [broken link removed] to company which was mentioned. There are a few of them around, but not as popular in Ireland as in some other countries. Overall, I guess the service is of value if you don't like negotiations and also if you think they will get a better deal than you think you could otherwise.

Do owners advertise their own property without going through an agent, does this happen in Ireland?

As far as I recollect the registration fee is 500euro and then 1% of the purchase price, which would seem to conflict with achieving lower prices. In our instance the leading agent in the area, based on reputation and personal experience, is tricky, slippery and not in the least straight forward. Hence the idea to employ a third party. Alternatively we could just use our solicitor.

Thanks for the links/
