Hello all.Advice on following issue please.
Toyota Avensis 1.6 leanburn petrol 00 D .Serviced regularly .Trouble free to date 95kmiles.Serviced @ 91k miles.Oil light came on last wk .topped up with oil .light came on again this wk.No oil leaks in driveway. Is car on way out? Thanks

Was the oil actually low on the dip stick? Not a faulty/damaged oil level indicator by any chance? What brand of oil was used, is it the same brand that was used in previous services? Does the engine sound and run ok, any excessive exhaust smoke.

same brand of oil .very little oil showing when stick dipped.engine sounds same as ever. mpg still the same also. no smoke or strange noises

no all seems ok on both issues.if car is burning oil is engine on way out or shud it last a while yet?

Check the exhaust. Blue smoke coming from a car's exhaust pipe while it is running is a sign of oil burning. Smell the exhaust. An engine that is burning oil produces higher emissions. It will also fail to pass an emissions test due to elevated hydrocarbon emission.

Monitor the engine to see if it is misfiring or running rough. An engine that is burning oil will foul the spark plugs, causing it to run rough.Inspect the spark plugs. Pull the spark plug wires off one spark plug. Use a spark plug wrench to remove the spark plug. Examine the spark plug. An oily, wet or sooty spark plug terminal is a sign of oil burning. Replace the spark plug and wire. Repeat for each spark plug, working on one spark plug at a time.

If it is burning oil make sure to keep the oil topped up and don't let it run dry.

Thanks pudds .checked out your suggestions.all seem ok.nct shortly .worried about emmissions now.

Check for loose connection at oil pressure switch. This is located on the engine block.
