burn video to cd-r for playback on dvd

anyone know if its possible how to do this? Im currently googling to find out but if anyone knows...

I have a run of mpegs/avi's and only have a cd burner.

Best bet is to create a VCD (or SVCD) — most CD-burning software has this option.

Or you could buy a DivX-compatible DVD player..? (they start at about €80 or so these days).
