when i originally sent out for quotes to builders i specified red deal, i have now changed our mind and would like oak, but the allowance we got back seems very poor:
Pine door: 60 euro
Door Frame: 11.30
Architrave: 41 cents per foot
skirting: 41 cents per foot
Any opinions...tempted to take the timber or maybe this is a fair price
Probably a bit off the pace what we would pay but most likely not too far off pace what the builder is paying. They would be getting trade discounts etc.
Thanks Secman, its from a builders price i'm looking at, not DIY store prices, I just want to make sure I'm getting a fair allowance, its not to do with money aspect just don't like getting ripped off
100 one offs a year...???? ..... i doubt that,.....
the allowances are definitely on the low side, but they cant be commented on until he gives you the cost difference between deal and oak....
€60 for a pine door is ok if he'll give you oak doors for €90-95.... otherwise its too low...
he specialises in one offs and is quite popular as regards price and level of finish/satisfaction is top notch, to switch from pine to oak, (all joinery) is nearly 8K...the break down is as follows all in white oak, which seems very competative aswell:
