Thinking of buying a car in the UK and just wondering about the likelihood of a significant change in the budget next week - any views?

Hmmm........ hope you're right RSK2. Was wondering if for example the SIMI might have been lobbying for a more punitive rate for used cars coming in to stop the imports (especially from the UK)?

SIMI have been lobbying for years to get rid of VRT. They are ignored as a matter of course over most things.

SIMI are the culprits when it comes to determining the levels of VRT payable on Used cars, they are the people who advise Revenue what tax to charge.
SIMI don't want VRT removed, they are making enough money at current volumes of business. Their only serious lobbying issue is to get some form of VRT rebate if a Rep of Ireland car is exported.
