Budget Announcement that Excise duty was reduced on Home Heating Oil

An announcement was made in the budget that Excise duty was reduced on home heating oil. Having made enquiries about the price of oil with the company I normally purchase from, I was told that the reduction was on imported oil :confused: and that it didn't affect their prices!!. I was unable to get any further info from the person who answered the phone and she added "that's what we were told". I was quoted 57c approx per litre.
I rang back 10 mins. later to find out if this was a VAT inclusive price. I was told that a price reduction had occured and the price now quoted is
55.40c per litre incl. VAT. Can any one throw any light on this. I am in the midlands. What prices are people being quoted?

Click on the various counties on the map in [broken link removed] to get an idea - prices may not be entered for every county but you will get some idea at least. I paid € 580 for my last fill in November and I'm in the Wexford area.

I just ordered 800 Litres of Kerosene Heating Oil at 70c per Litre inc Vat. When I expressed shock at the price, I was told it had actually come down in the last few days. I must remember to turn the Thermostat down.

As somebody who works in the industry I can tell you it has gone down..I would think that prices should fall about €10-15 on 1000 litres over the next day or so, forecasts for next week so far are indicating another drop of about 1c per litre. Bear in mind prices change on a wednesday nite and not on a monday.
 
There is no duty now on kerosene and as all keroscene is imported into Ireland that line about not effecting their prices is rubbish.Import Duty was removed on all kerosene in the 2007 budget but I strongly suspect these savings where not passed on when they where not obliged to.
