Anyone know the name or have a link to a golf development near budapest it is being designed by Christy O'Connor Jnr. I think its called budagate or something like that???

I obvisouly searched extensive on the net before posting this.

I was in fact genuine in my question.

However as I knew it was budagate or something I should have known to try budapestgate.com - case of the monday morning sillyness I suppose.

But definitely no advertising from me..

Definitely no connection here either - other than I heard the ad during Morning Ireland on Monday and I like golf.

I don't feel need to apologise for that!

I'm not the slighest bit interested in buying abroad but has anyone any idea of the prices being sought. The site makes them look very nice. As with any overseas property are you just buying the dream (illusion).

According to the ad on the radio 30% sold out on the first day. No doubt they are overpriced.

The Hungarian Central Bank raised rates yesterday by 0.5% to bring them to 7.25%.

[broken link removed]

A bit of a double boogie at the par 4 9th eh?

Sorry but (despite implications that I am linked to this place!) I have no info about prices or prospects for this develpment.

HOWITZER - in golf it is called a bogey (not a boogie!!!).

Sincere apologies if i misunderstood the situation. Seemed a bit of a co-incidence that someone should be able to post the website a couple of minutes after the very good description the original poster gave. Maybe it was just lucky that someone knew the exact website that this person was referring to.

As soon as I saw the title of the post I knew the name of the development website. I had heard an ad on the radio for it that morning, you should learn to be a bit less cynical ;)

Apology accepted - no need for the "if" though, you obviously did misunderstand the situation.

Its a new luxury development being designed by Christy O Connor, real high-end stuff. PGA standard course with 150 luxury villas dotted around the valley and lakes where the course will be built. 5 star hotel/health spa/conference centre also planned. I was at the launch last week...very impressive. Cant help thinking about The K Club and the houses they built. Retailed at that time for 250k approx. I seem to remember. Would 5-6 mil. buy one now? Anyway i invested in a villa over-looking the 6th hole with lake views in Budapest. Well worth a look..

I paid 390k euro for a frontline villa, 200sqm on a quarter acre site with outdoor swimming pool.

I went to a show a few months ago about foreign property and the property the struck me was in Budapest. Of course i got the usual once in a life time chance and prices going up story that you always seen to get at one of these events. What struck me most was the story about how there currency had dropped to 248 to the euro recently and that it was now a great time to buy. The currency is now 276 so it has dropped nearly another 10 per cent so what ever you would possibly have made in the few months would be lost in the currency change, so buyer beware. Make sure you have your homework done when buying outside the euro zone.

Hungary will probably continue to suffer from economic problems for some time yet. Interest rates there just reached 7.25% and worries over the budget deficit (almost 10% of GDP) have put a lot of pressure on the currency. There is also concern at the amount of foreign currency lending that the local banks have undertaken.

People looking to invest in Hungary ought to have a pretty long tine horizon as the next few years are likely to be difficult.
