Just wondering, unlike in western Europe, why is it so rare that classic apartments in Budapest have fireplaces?

Hi,
It's not that rare, but in Hungary (probably everywhere in Central Europe) you are going to find cserépkályha [tile stove???
] in the classic apartements. Most of these cserépkályha are gas-burning (there were wood-burning certainly).
