Hey first post here bit confused about the BTEA.

Ive just got accepted into doing a FETAC level 5 course inside in Limerick Senior College of Further Education (Photography), but about a month ago I had to leave my job because they wouldn't allow me to work day time hours at the weekends it was either work from half 10 at night till about 4 in the morning.

Im 20 and have been searching everywhere for a part time job at the weekends, I havnt signed on for jobseekers benefit but would it be too late to sign on for jobseekers benefit now and seek to claim for BTEA? :S

Thanks for reading and posting back..

Hi. If you look into the Social Welfare website it will give you the criteria for qualfiying for BTEA. I don't think you will qualify. I think you have to be over either 21 or 23 and you have to be on social welfare for either 6 or 9 months. Also I'm not sure if a Fetac course qualifies for BTEA. Take a look into the website and it should tell you the qualifying conditions. Good luck.

Read the keypost guide on 'How to find full information on SW schemes'. You won;t qualify for BTEA on age (unless out of education for over 2 years) or on length of time on JB unless over 9 months signing minimum
