BTE and one-parent family allowance

Hi,

I was just wondering if I'm getting BTE (Back to Education) for the last three years, except during the summer when I'm put on seekers allowance.

My girlfriend is also in college but is on lone-parent allowance. I don't get rent allowance as I don't claim it ( living with family), but my girlfriend has a house which the CC rent off the landlord and let it to her for the usual €30 a rent, I think.

If I was to move in with her how does that affect hers and mine benefits? ie my BTE, and her weekly allowance, monthly child allowance and rent allowance?

If you move in with your girlfriend, she must close her one parent family payment as she will no longer entitled to it.

If you were on Jobseeker's before starting on Back to Education Allowance, you may be able to claim an increase for your girlfriend and child(ren). You should contact the local office for more information.

Her monthly child benefit isn't affected.

She will have to contact the council to add you to the tenancy and have a re-assessment of rent carried out.
