broken petrol mower

HI

We have a mountfield petrol mower that had a new engine put in, living in rented accomodation and it belongs to the landlord. The minute we took it out to cut the grass it hit a pipe that was left sticking out of the ground (grass was so long couldn't see). It went dead and someone told us it would be better to replace it than try fix as would cost the same.

Could anyone recommend anyone to take a look and assess for us? Don't really want to buy a new one for landlord as feel the pipe shouldn't have been there in first place but don't mind getting repaired at reasonable cost.

thanks

Some recommendations in this previous thread.

Does the engine turn over when you pull the started cord? If not, you've probably bent the crank shaft, which could be a €100 or so repair.

You'll pick up a replacement secondhand or reconditioned engine for well under €100 I'd say.
