Broadband Speed

I've had a broadband connection for about 18 months, but have recently found response times becoming very slow. When I enter a new URL it takes a few seconds before the new page starts to load. I'm on a basic BB package with BT, so contention ratio of 48:1. Has anybody else noticed this, or is it my laptop?

If you're using Firefox try out what Car says in his second post in this thread - definitely made a difference to me

Try this line speed test on the internetfrog site. You'll normally find your speeds are nowhere near what you think they should be. eg. if you have a 1mb line then speeds of around 250-300kbps are not unusual and are probably the norm. Theres a few of reasons for this with contention being only one. 48:1 is high tho and if 3-4 people have recently got BB on the same line and have heavy usage you will notice it. monitor the speeds over a week or so and get on to BT and let them know if you think its too slow.
