i bought broadband in a box from broadband.ie which when i was sold it i was told that it would work in my area it could not connect to anything and i got no satisfaction from their helpline i am now trying to return it has anyone had experience with this company

Do you mean these guys? If so it's a wireless broadband product and more technical help may be needed... (here, not there!)

There's also a forum set up over on boards.ie to log complaints against these guys. With this forum and other complaints in this area customer service seems to be a massive problem for IBB.
