Boundary Fence Maintenance

My Site is adjoined to a field where live stock is kept. When I purchased the site the farmer was required to erect a fence and he did. However it is now in bad repair and needs to be repaired/replaced. He leases this field out to livestock owner.

Who is responsible for the maintenance of this fence? The Landlord(farmer), the livestock owner or me?
 
If the farmer was required to erect a fence when you purchased the land, he may be required to maintain the fence by whatever it was that caused him to erect the fence. Why was he required to erect a fence? Was it in the contract of purchase?
 
Yes it was in the contract of purchase, "vendor was to erect timber fence within 30 days". I would assume he had to erect fence because of his intended future of the field i.e. sheep and cattle and sometimes even a bull.
