bought private,now has rust!

I bought a car privately all looked fine,although it had no nct, was a classic and these things always need a little work. When we removed the bumper,it had really bad rust. The owner has said he didn't know there was rust under the bonnet. Have we any legal rights?
 
Buying a car privately is buying a car sold as seen,i don't think legally you can do anything,you could ask the seller nicely to refund you some money but its doubtful he/she will.
 
Thanks a million - I thought as much. I guess they didn't know either,how could they know what was lurking under a bumper!
 
Bought a classic last year and imported it. Great engine, looked ok condition. On further inspection found that where the front axle meets the chassis was completely rotted. Axle off and chassis refabricated. These things happen on very old cars.
