Hi all,
Bought my first car on Wednesday from a guy who "gets the nod from friends on good deals and buys them up before dealers can get them"
.. sounds dodge straight off doesn't it...
..talked to the guy though..
seemed all right..
got the reg and ran it through cartell.ie..
report came back ok.. everything checked out..
met the guy with my mechanic friend/witness... he figured it was a good deal so I reached a figure with the guy...

HERE'S THE PROBLEM... section B of the the document (registration), he told me, had been filled in by the one and only owner of the 2002 car... a "foolish lady" who had thought that section was for her when she bought the car initially...
SOOOO.. he said for me to just write my details on a piece of paper and give then to him and he would sort it out...

I was hesitant but decided to run with it as was getting a "good deal" according to mechanic friend...
OK.. had checked that NCT number matched what I had from Cartell etc...
asked him for ID.. no picture ID on him but got name, issue and expiry date and type of credit card off him.... (by the way was silly enough to meet this guy at neutral location.. he may be totally legit too.. except for being a non-tax paying backyard dealer of course)

Got home and suddenly had a panic attack as realised the possible implications of what I had done... He could have been anyone!..gave me an address but... and suddenly I am in possession of a car that is not in my name!

Luckily, I took the name of the lady that owned the car originally and the town she lives in but not her full address (DUUUUUHHHH!!!!)... checked her name and the town in the phone book and there is only one so fingers crossed... rang yer man this morn and he assured me it was already in the mail as it was 'in his interest to get rid of it'..(even though there is no record of him ever owning it???).. the fact he answered was a positive I suppose...

Just lookin for opinions as to whether I am screwed or not or any advice... will the vehicle registration people confirm whether the thing has arrived before they process it (not in to waiting a couple of weeks to see) and am interested as to whether I can insure myself on the car before I am registered owner or what is the position there?????

he said registration could take a couple of weeks? If he doesn't send on book what are my options?

Do you think I am worrying unnecessarily?

It was a good deal... maybe too good to be true?!

Could you break that into paragraphs. Click on the edit button and re-submit.
A lot more people will attempt to read it then.

I think you are worrying for nothing. I think he is doing you a favour tbh - but next time save the worry and do the donkey work yourself.

As GZ has said. If you format your post correctly then more people will be able to read it and post answers.
