Maybe someone could help me with this. I recently bought a house and got the key from the estate agent. They told me they had only one key. The trouble is 2 back doors are locked and an outhouse is also locked. The sale is obviously finalized i.e. the vendor has my money. I have asked the EA to make contact with the vendor to see if they have more keys. I was just wondering do I have any redress here? Or might I have to bear the cost of getting a locksmith DIY etc.
When you viewed the house did you go out the back door? And look in the outhouse? If so then there must be keys for them...what does your solicitor say?
Thanks for your response. There is a third backdoor which I do have a key for. I did not use the other doors when viewing nor enter the outhouse. I have put in a query with my Solicitor. I just wanted to see if there was any reaction on here.
Han Solo, we buy property frequently, in every instance we change the locks and put extra bolts where required, checking that all the windows are secure. It really is worth it.
It's a lot easier to change the locks if you have the keys to open the door. Not having keys changes it from a DIY job to needing a locksmith to create keys.
