Bottle Banks - Separating Coloured glass.

I noticed recently that the person collecting the bottles from our local bottle bank seemed to empty the bottles from the green glass container, the brown glass and clear glass container in to the back of one lorry all on top of each other. Is this the case? If so why do we bother separating our coloured glass in to different containers.

Ive often wondered about this! A significant proportion of the male population is colour blind and cannot distinguish between green and brown.

The options are usually green brown clear but what about Blue? (the old Milk of Magnesia Bottles)

Ive noticed recently at a friends apartment that they have stopped the requirement to separate the coloured glass recently.

I was told by someone who works in waste management that all recycled glass gets passed through a machine that uses lasers and sensors to identify the colours and separate it accordingly

If thats the case then why bother with the seperate bottle bins at all?

There are machines to cover all operations -

Take a look at this website - it shows you how its done -
