Want to book a shopping trip with my sister to either Boston/Chicago in early december (4th - 10th). flights to both are great value at 300 each including taxes/charges.

Was in boston briefly 6 years ago but as on honeymoon didn't do the whole shopping thing. Which would users feel is the best for shopping and going out and also any hotel recommendations. Also would it be really cold in both places in early December? anyone do their Christmas shopping in either city?

Very very cold indeed, zub zero some days when I was in Chicago last Dec and Boston wouldn't be much better.

Must admit I do prefer Boston overall though. Lovely city by american standards, nice restaurants and the shoppings good. Very easy city to get around too.

A key consideration will be where you are flying from. If you leave from Shannon with Aer Lingus, then do not select Chicago as you will first have to fly to Dublin and wait around for an hour before you leave for Chicago. This is not too bad on the way out but it is murder on the return leg. AFAIK, the opposite is true for Boston, ie the plane leaves Dublin, then goes to Shannon and then onto Boston.

Just booked Boston! WE are flying out on the 4th and coming back on the 9th. The flights are costing us 911 for 3 of us including taxes and charges. now just have to bookthe hotel but not sure where to book. Every website has different prices for different hotels!

Any further advice on where to shop/eat out/hotels are more than welcome. Got butterflies already thinking of it. Can't wait!!! Will bring my thermals just in case!

Just back from a weekend in Boston with the Mrs.

We stayed at the Marriott in Copley Place - not cheap at $229+taxes a night but top class hotel in the D4 of Boston. Hotel has a mall in the lobby and a skywalk to the Prudential Centre Mall. (The Sheraton, Hilton & Westin are also in the same area so shop around)

The subway is great at only $1.25 for a ride and it's safer than your own house - see link above.

Drop me a PM if you need any further advice.

ENJOY!

Lemurz - thanks a million for all the links. Will go through them all. We havn't a hotel booked but we thinking of either jury's,sheraton or park plaza. Thanks for all the great info!!!

Re: Boston in December

Rather than pay for the skywalk in the Prudential Centre you should take the lift to the 52 floor to the café bar/restaurant. Buy yourself some drinks and enjoy the same view - albeit from 2 stories higher.

If you like sushi, the Osushi in the Westin Copley Place is very nice. You can try out a few different pieces at the bar which doesn't work out too expensive.

Also just back from Boston. Stayed in an apartment just off Boston Common which was really handy for all shopping, nighttime entertainment etc. 4 people stayed for $910(total) for 5 nights. It's not a hotel but there was far more space for chilling out a while after the shopping expeditions and also for holding the case loads of shopping. Whatever you decide to do Enjoy!
