I am considering growing Boston Ivy on part of my house. The house is surrounded by 1.2m path and there is then a driveway all around the house.
Is it possible to grow healthy long lasting Boston from a large pot and train it up the house successfully. Thanks.
Apologies for the short answer earlier. It is possible to grow them in a container, but it will restrict how far they can grow and how healthy they'd be. You'd need very large containers and manage watering and feeding very well, but I can't imagine being able to grow healthy plants to the size you require.
Similar with Virginia Creeper, but they might be slightly easier.
Just remember you need to think of Boston Ivy on your house as a permanent thing. It will grip onto your plasterwork and take a considerable effort (and cost) to ever remove it. If you're still thinking about it, it should be possible to come up with a solution. Like build a permanent raised bed, or get holes cut into the path.
I would chip a hole in the path. I have Boston ivy on my farmhouse gable for 25 years. Invaluable cheering plant with wonderful colour, but does need cutting back occasionally...
