Born and lived UK, but didn't work

Wow, I'm glad OP raised this, there's an outside chance I qualify; I would have assumed it was pointless even checking.

Just finding this discussion now and wondering if anyone can advise. I was born in the UK and lived there until I was 9. I'm presuming my Mum got Children's Allowance for me. I moved to Ireland then but returned for one summer during college and worked in London, definitely was on the payroll and paid tax. Returned to Ireland and have been working here for 30 years. Would I have a shot at being entitled to anything pension wise especially given what I've read about juvenile years? I don't have an RSI number or any documentation regarding my employment but I must have had one right so what's the first step in checking this out?

s there still time to sort this? I can't find my NI number from when I was in UK, not sure how long that takes to sort either
If you know what your address was when you were allocated your NI number you can do this online. If not you have to fill out a form and post it. It took about 3 weeks for mine. Time is short as the deadline is the 5th of April to apply for the current "deal".

Is there a way of deleting a post? I was trying to delete my previous post but it won't allow me to do so when I erase everything a try to save?

Only moderators can delete posts. If you really need it deleted and doing do doesn't screw up the overall thread coherence then use the Report button/link to report your own post asking the moderators to delete it.

I did get my NI number in the end. The Hmrc app said I'm legible for Class 3 but I applied for Class 2 and sent a load of payslips showing I went to work in Ireland. Will give them a call next week

Update. I spoke to Hmrc today and they said there is a letter going out to me today to say I can pay Class 3. I asked for some detail and the lady said the notes indicated some stuff about my credits only being juvenile credits and having paid very little overall. I think it's fair enough and I'll just pay up, considering myself lucky to get in at all.

The website says

  • paid contributions or had Class 2 contributions treated as having been paid for at least 3 years
and
To pay Class 2 voluntary contributions both of the following must also apply:

  • you worked in the UK immediately before leaving
  • you’re currently working abroad (or you worked while you were abroad)
The starter credits seem strange to many but were deliberately there to help people qualify for a pension and the part in bold along with the second part seems to suggest they can count towards paying at class 2
