Hi, I do book-keeping and Payroll etc from home. (As I have two children it suits me better).

Can anyone advise me which College Course would suit better -

Business Studies
Qualified Accounting Technician - will I learn anything useful, that you wouldn't learn through every day working??

Much appreciated.

Re: Book-keeper

Hi Nat

The Accounting Technician is a well recognized course and if you do well in it, you get exemptions from the accounting exams.

I think that the course will put a lot of what you are currently doing in perspective and it would show you how to produce the trial balance and accounts.

The Business Studies degree is more general and vague and won't really improve your hands-on skills.

You can do the IATI by correspondance course too with [broken link removed]

The ACCA also do an accounting technican course which is a more favourable route as it leads directly to the professional accountancy road - if you want to go there - and is internationally recognised

The Institute of Taxation in Ireland (ITI) also do a Tax Technician course. Their website is taxireland.ie
