Bollards instead of Gates

Want to install Bollards instead of Gares at the top of our avenue to prevent cars turning - the bollards that can be stood up when in use or flattenned down on the ground when not in use.
Has anyone any experience of these, are they efficent - are they a good idea?

Have a little experience on them, the ones we used were "Bolt In" type, i.e they bolt into the ground, the peice that is normally sticking up folds flat onto the ground. We were using them in a car park, they prove themselves to be very very weak and in no time they were damaged beyond repair. Hmmmmm, would I use them again, no.
