I'm far from being a Saint, but whenever I've been involved in contracting, I've not stolen time (money) from my client. I'm sure I'm not alone in this. They're paying me to do a job.

Today's Indo highlights the fact that the IT staff who shopped Soden were recently outsourced from BOI to HP, but I'm sure that had no impact on their approach.

I think 'The Court' , as the 7th floor of Bank of Ireland Head Office is called, was also made open plan by Mike Soden, not just the other offices. The Court was all plush like a gentleman's club - I know because I was in it. However, as regards Soden's misdemeanour - I can't imagine that the first time he viewed a porn sight in work was the only one and the time he was caught. That would be too much of a coincidence but I do think he thought himself untouchable - and where does pride go before ??????.

Isn't Mr S getting a very easy ride from the medja? Ok, extremely lucky with what's happening up in Bankcentre.

But consider this.

The leak was to the SBP. That republican rag never got a scoop in its life and was sure to be the most timid of exploiters of their little day in the sun.

Meanwhile Mr S has lined up interviews with the Sunday Times and the I Times. These two, not having been the benefactors of the leak, are only too willing to accept Mr S' line and be sympathetic to it. And how does that line go?

I was set up. Within days of being found out the SBP was tipped off.

I am a very honourable man (not like those cowards in Bankcentre). It was the most venial of misdemeanours but I must accept my own standards.

If I parked on the wrong side of the street I would similarly resign. (Cynics will note he means "if I was caught")

At 57 the curiosity to see a woman in a bikini (see today's Indo) just overcame me and for the first time in my life I had a peek. Not for me a simple Google search on the word "porn" - heaven forbid, I might see dreadful things. No I did a search on "bikini".

Guys and gals - this was an Escort agency and Mr S was due to travel to America.

Given that it was bound to come out at some time the actual leak and press coverage has been quite beyond Mr S' wildest hopes for a sympathetic treatment.

Who leaked that info to the SBP?

I wonder did Soden have any part in desigining the new series of Bank Of Ireland adverts for home loans. They are a bit saucy aren't they. I remember holding my boyfriends hand in his car as he tried to maul me because he didn't have any place to take me. Men are animals really. I stay away from them.

Rainyday, you've got to admire those outsourced techies. Brings to mind all sorts of pearls of management wisdom...eg the a** you kick on the way up might be the same a** you have to kiss up to on the way down, etc etc.

Somebody has to throw the first stone

The universal reaction (from men anyway) to recent revelations seems to be, "Nothing against porn, myself, but he was rather foolish".

This is partly due to the "oh so modern Ireland" syndrome but is also a complet misunderstanding of that most misunderstood Bible adage "let he who is without sin etc.".

So, it is clear that almost all men are ogling this stuff - but that doe not prevent society from frowning on it. Just because you have a secret shame does not preclude you from condemning that shame when it is exposed in others.

What seems to be happening is that we are all agreeing to wallow in sin, and interpreting this as both modern and Christian.

If this guy wanted to look at some escort service in the US or whereever it was then he should have done it at home.
He was just stupid and the bank I believe were looking for a reason to get rid of him anyway.

Sodem - I didn't - I hovered the mouse over the link first. (Hmmm, I wonder where I learnt that from)

I have no problem with Soden looking at porn, or escort agencies or whatever. Big deal. The problem I see with it is that he was ogling muck and tat with one hand while slashing IT jobs with the other. He was in his ivory tower while others were overburdened. Customer service rots while the fat cats count their money and pleasure themselves.

Since he failed to combine AIB with BoI, they were probably itching to get rid of him anyway.
