Bodywork damage - replace panels or can it be fixed?

Went to get my car NCT'ed this morning and was failed because of bodywork damage...OH had reversed the car with the passenger door open and the door and wing panels are slightly bent.

Took the car to the garage for a quote on repairs and the mechanic told me the door, wing and door moulding all needed to be replaced and was expecting this to come to around €1000 not including labour.

Does this seem reasonable? As I had been expecting (or hoping anyway) that damage like that could be fixed by beating out dents and realigning the door.

If damage is enough to warrant replacement €1000 sounds OK - depends on car.

Most body repairers would replace if e.g. crash barrier on door is damaged.
