Hi,
Looking for some advice regarding my next big purchase!! Got stung with a car purchase three years ago ( private sale) and it is finally time to move on up!! Looking for BMW 3 OR 5 Series - budget is 8k. 1) are these good cars to buy 2) would I get a good year, condition car for my money.
Any advise on reputable dealers etc would be greatly appreciated.

You're looking at about a 2000/2001 318/320 or maybe a 520 if you're lucky with that money. High miles will be the order of the day. You will get a low mileage E36 (92-99 model) 323 or 320. Avoid the 318 but the 318is is a top car.

Go to NI/UK and save a fortune and get a newer car, with lower miles & a higher spec (as practically everything on a BMW is an extra) cos Irish spec is generally poverty spec with people buying them just to have the BMW key.

My husband bought a BMW 318i coupe about 6 months ago, electric blue, cream leather interior. Its 2001, and he paid €11k for it, which as a wife I thought that was a bit steep.....as it turned out at the time...it was actually a bargain, as comparables showed that they were going for anything between €13k and €17k. That was 6 months ago now, so im not sure how much the fetch at the moment with this glorious economic crisis <<<<(Hint of sarcasm at our financial state) :)
 
You are looking at high miles or an older car, so 8k is only going to be the start of it. Make sure you can aford to keep it on the road as repairs, servicing etc are expensive on beemers
