Have a 05 530D needs service. Can anyone recommend a reliable, honest independent. Always been to North Dublin BMW dealer in the past and ripped off accordingly, had enough. Want same service, lower price. Thanks.

Hi Beamer boy and welcome along.

Lots of people recommend ac cars but their prices have crept up to within shouting distance of the main dealers so questionable if you will save alot that way.
MKW motors in Kingswood business park gets some recommendations here.

When you say always been to the dealer does that mean it has five years of dealer stamped servicing? This will be an addition when you are selling a premium car, most of the indys will now stamp the service book, also there is the option of buying the filters from the main dealers, keeping the receipts and getting an indy to fit them. If the car has five years of dealer servicing and you are thinking of selling it soon might be worth getting one more done - sorry prob not what you wanted to hear. (on my last car I decided at the start if I was going to go all main dealer servicing or none)

Obviously your 530 is a high level car and most enthusiasts recommend going to a specialist, but I have always found that the good independents do a good job and I like that you can go in and chat to guy that is actually working on the car.
I suppose it depends what category you fall into

Hi ,

prices in main dealers have dropped considerably. You should price a few main dealers first.

Ya, go to main dealer. Generally assured of quality and prices have defo dropped.

Dont think the main dealers for bm prices have dropped much. They have introduced "value servicing" for the e39, but that is only up to 2003, the op's car is the newer model.

Even with the value pricing it is still quite expensive.

Thanks all for your comments - am shopping around (main dealers and independents) and finding really significant variation in prices quoted....but thats before diagnostic run. Need two new run flat tyres too...huge price differences there too.

I think there is a concensus to swap hard unforgiving runflats good normal tyres.

Price comfort are big plus points.
The fact that a puncture seems to destroy a run flat is a worry.

legal

Why not just put up the guys details.

I am sure he would be happy of the recommendations.

Won't be as good as my mate though :p

You need to find what is included in the service, I have just been ripped off by a main dealer who quoted €269 for a full service and then added the price of filters and plugs etc. which came to €341, they also charge twice for fitting the plugs because the first time they did not have any and I had to go back, they said the first charge was for inspection only. They also told me that the brake pads required replacing which I said no, when I looked at the pads later they were only half worn.

Name and Shame comes to mind so other people can be warned and avoid them, they will soon realise its cheaper to give proper service

I have written a letter of complaint to the dealer and Toyota Ireland (together with photos) To date neither have replied, I will give them time to reply and correct before I name and shame.

I always use AC cars just off Dunore Ave. I have an X5 3.0 diesel same enigne as yours and they have been looking after it for the past 2 years without any hassle.

Their number is 01 4531433
