H HighFlier Registered User Messages 546 23 Jun 2006 #3 I presume if you are looking at a 520i petrol it is second hand as BMW no longer make a petrol 520. All 520s from 2002 onwards have a 2,2 litre straight six cylinder engine. The older 520 had a four cylinder 2 litre. The smallest 5 Series now made is the 523 which has a detuned version of the 2.5 l engine used in the 525i.

The 320cd is also a 2.0 although that of course is a diesel.

H HighFlier Registered User Messages 546 24 Jun 2006 #6 All I know is that both the 523 and 525 have a 2.5 l engine but the 525 has more BHP. I think its the way the tuning or injectors are set up.
