Blocking 3 months of year for holidays

Hi, just wondering if this is allowed....my employer has sent an e-mail to us all to say that absolutely no holidays will be allowed in Dec, Jan or Feb......

I would have thought (or hoped!) that employers could not block out 3 months of the year? I could understand a much shorter period but not this??
 
Think about teachers, builders, they have much more restrictive practices than that.
 
Thanks for the replies....not what i was hoping for but the point about teachers/builders makes sense!

Off topic but I think most people would be happy for their employer to dictate when they took their holidays if they were giving them 18 weeks a year.
 
In my dept we ban leave from Sept to march for peak season..... only odd days allowed,
