Just about to take the plunge and sign up for a biocycle treatment unit after much research using threads here and other sites, has anyone recently installed one of these and what are you experiences to date, just want finalize my choice.

Thanks

Brian

Im at the same stage myself car29. I am leaning towards the klargestar bio disc unit at the moment due to the lower running costs and the fact that it also carries the CE mark which means it passed the new European standard as well as carrying an agrement board cert. I would be interested to hear if anybody has installed this unit and their experiences so far. The other units I looking at were the Bison by EPS, Envirocare (Kingspan), Biotech, and Tricel (Killarney plastics) which were all in or around the same price.

Hi Builder ed

Do you mind me asking what this unit is costing, I would be looking at €11,000 for the biocycle unit that includes delivery , installation of unit and polishing filter I just want the best unit available and I am not willing to cut corners when it comes to waste treatment.

The prices I was Quoted for the Supply and Commissioning of the Units varied from €2700 to €3500. This did not include the installation of the units which is a straight forward operation or the Percolation area. €11,000 sounds expensive to me.

Yep I know it is expensive but after research I think it is the best one out there as far as I can see, Biocycle will do the complete installation so at least I know if I have problems they will be the ones to sort it and tey gave guarantee on this and it only nedds desludging every 7 years or so as compared to annualy with other systems, hope I am making the right choice.

Recently installed a bio treatement plant for our new home- didn't pay anywhere near €11k (not sure) but almost certain that it was €5k plus VAT.

Used Delaney Concrete Systems in Wexford- they have a bio arm- no connection with this company

Just phoned the wife to check- we paid €3,000 for the unit.

Installation required having a digger & an electrician on site (I arranged to have both there when the tank was being delivered so effectively it was delivered & installed all in one go)

From what I remember it was relatively straight forward as the unit had to be wired up & the digger then just dug out normal percolation area etc. Whole thing took approx. 1 hour for electrics & 5 hours with digger.

I certainly wouldn't pay €11k for a system-

I had a Klargester system. It was in the house before I purchased it. What a Nightmare ?? The previous owner had so much difficulty with it he stopped using it and simply used to have the unit de-sludged every six months. Envirocare arrived at my request five years ago, looked at the unit and refused to repair it as it was a unit purchased before Kingspan took over Klargester in this country. They even refused to sell me the parts. I then had to order the parts from the UK and had my own contractors try and fix the existing unit. I spent thousands over the last 5 years and in May this year it gave up the ghost altogether. Packed up. The rep from Envirocare arrived in May and promised me that he would have it fixed. May, June, July and August passed and the smell was rotten. Their installer came to see the job but i was then told that they wouldn't stand over it. So I purchased another system- huge tank that works on air been blown in. Very simple, much cheaper in cost and we live beside an important river for fishing. If you want the name of the manufacturer, I will advise you after I find the name.

Thanks for your replies I am thinking again now about the biocycle,Yellow belly how long is the system in?

I have had the Oreilly Oakstown Baf system in for the last 2 years and no problems in my self build. It is a concrete system consisting of two 2000 litre tanks. Should require emptying every 7 years or so.

Cost about 4500. This included delivery, commissioning and electrical installation and oversight during installation, I had a groundsman there as he had to dig a hole and back fill around the system. He also did the perculation area.

I have no connection with the company. Their annual service is about 150 euros.

Car29, good luck with your decision. I looked at a few different systems, some which were a few grand cheaper than this but my groundsman said these were his preferred option and he knew a lot more than me.

Thanks for all the information you may have just saved me a good few grand, I suppose the motto is if the unit is fitted correctly in the first place you should have no problems, I was probaly been over cautious going for the most expensive one out there.

The system I have is the 'ecotank' system. It is made in Donegal and is an excellent system.
