We will hopefully be moving into a house soon and i was just wondering what bills should i expect to be paying and what is the average they would be. It is a three bedroom and it will be just the two of us living there.
 
It depends on whether it's gas or oil fired central heating, whether you have double glazing or not, what type of construction the house is, how many appliances you have and use and how often.

At the moment, we pay out €55 per month every month for central heating, which is gas fired, we have it equalized through the year, that's for a 4 bed timber framed terraced house with double glazing. Our electricity bill is less, and amounts to €50 per month equalized over the year. We would have dishwasher, washing machine, oven, fridge, tumble drier, 2 televisions etc.

Our last house was older and less energy efficient and we forked out almost double for both major utilities.

How do you find equalisation of the ESB bill? We have just received a bill for €278 (based on current meter reading back to estimated reading), whereas our last bill was €98 (we have never had a bill higher than €149 prior to this one). I think that this is ridiculous, and would prefer if we could smooth out the cost over the year. We have a 2 bed apartment, with all the usual appliances, rarely use the tumble drier (6 times a year maybe), diswasher 2/3 times a week, washing machine 2/3 times a week, gfch.
 
Brutal tbh!

After lengthy arguements with the ESB customer service and billing departments, they finally agreed to my estimation of our electricity costs and agreed to distribute the cost annually as per my calcuations. Since I did that, I've had no problems and remain very much in credit over the summer months and never go into debit over the winter months.

I've found that the only way to deal with the ESB with regards to estimated billing is to put it all in writing and persist, persist, persist with your problems.
 
Other bills you can expect to face are:

TV licence, around €150 p.a.

Boiler servicing, around €80 p.a. for oil boiler, excluding consumables.

Chimney cleaning, approx. €50 per chimney per year

Refuse collection, approx. €330 p.a. (depending on where you live)

Plus all the usual telecom, cable etc.

If you're not happy with the estimated reading on a bill then you can always [broken link removed] or by phone.
