Bidding- help!

Hi,

I was just wondering if estate agents saying that sellers are "on holiday" is a common ploy to drag out the bidding process?
It has happened to me twice in the last while and I'm starting to think they are lying.

Drive past the property tonight and check if there any signs of life. I know its hard to believe but agents dont lie all the time

I hope not! It's just that the estate agent says he's not sure if they are away for one or two weeks?!? The house is just on the market a week and he says they are looking for a quick sale so it seems very odd to me that they would go on holiday. I think the house is empty anyway, ah this whole bidding thing is driving me nuts!

Tell the agent that you are ready to buy now but if the vendor is on hols, and u don't know for how long, then you are not interested anymore and will move on and bid for another house.

I think if I say that I'm not interested the estate agent won't care. He knows the house will sell anyway. I feel like I have no control over what happens, it's so frustrating. I've tried using all the advice on dealing with estate agents and putting time limits on bids etc but i feel like they aren't bothered and know that if they don't sell to me there's always someone out there willing to pay over the odds!! Rant over..sorry!!!

unless they've gone on holidays to the moon, surely the estate agent has some means of contacting them. Alot of people arrange a holiday around selling a property so the property is unoccupied and clean for viewings, but you would imagine the estate agent would have a contact mobile or the vendors would be in contact to see how things are going.

frustrating I know, but you will probably have to grin and bear it, or tell estate agent your retracting your offer until you know the vendors are contactable.
