Between jobs and claiming Jobseeker's Allowance.

My son finished his degree in May this year and has secured a graduate programme beginning in Nov. He worked part time all during college. That job finished at the end of July 2024. He is now at home waiting to start work in Nov. He plans to go on holiday for a week this month and then hopefully travel for 3 or so weeks before starting his new job in Nov.

Can he claim job seekers while he is waiting to begin his job in Nov or if not, can he apply for credits for the period?

Thank you.

I would say no, as he is not actively seeking work? He could always apply anyway and see what the outcome is.

Could he find a suitable short term role to tide him over until he starts his new job? (though TBH if he is starting his working career I would say if he can afford it to take the time and enjoy it!)

Thank you. I agree, he'll be working long enough.

If he is available for work between now and nov apart from the weeks when he is on holidays, why would he not sign on?

He is entitled to apply.
If he meets the rules for qualification he will be rewarded JB or JA or credits.
He has nothing to loose in applying so he should do so.
Don't be discouraged by comments that proof of seeking employment might be required.
If required a copy of a job application would suffice.
