Best way to send a gift of AU$

A friend is getting married in Australia and I want to send a cash gift. Don't want to use AIB international online money transfer as it's too impersonal and I don't want to ask him for his bank details.

Can I simply buy an AU$ cheque or draft from my bank to post with a card or is there a better way?

My brother lives in Australia and I always send any money to him by bank draft.
 
I have done this a number of times however I believe that the payment has to come out of one's bank account for money laundering reasons. My bank is PTSB which charged/s Eur3 per draft. I think BOI charge is Eur 3.50.
