A friend of mine would like to buy Sat Nav as a birthday present for her father and she's shopped around a bit but was wondering if anyone had any tips on the best value available as it's quite an expensive purchase?

No help but I was wondering which is most accurate for Ireland?

Might look at similiar myself.
 
No the cheapest, but I find Garmin are the best for map coverage in Ireland.(Still very poor outside of Dublin though)
 
I got one of these

Great little unit, good map coverage for all the country, though you will need a PC to set it up with the Irish maps when you get it, as its shipped with UK maps.

You can buy the same unit here [broken link removed], which will cost you more, but is supplied by a Dublin company and all set up.
 
@JohnJay: You havnt heard anything as to when Route 66 will update Irish maps??

I know they claim 100% irish coverage but its still lacking in certain areas as far as I'm concerned. If they could just improve it that little bit more, it would make it so much more reliable/useful.
