We have decided on a few days in London this year .

Where can we find the best value in flights/hotels in London area ,

Wanted to fly from Waterford/London , but it seems way too expensive.

Could drive to London , if it was better value ( Rosslare - Fishguard )

probabbly prefer hotel accomodation , but self catering might be ok.

Good advice would be appreciated

Check out eBay for hotel vouchers - I have used this lots of times and got great value. Alternatively try alpharooms.com

Check out lsevacations.co.uk - university accommodation which is rented out for the holidays. Very reasonable prices, very central and they seem to be of high standard.

Don't bring the car into central London, between congestion charges and parking, it will rob you.
If you have a hotel in a zone near the central zones though, and it has free parking, it might make sense to drive and to use public transport when you're there. I find though that it is more enjoyable to stay right in the centre so that we can go to shows, restaurants etc without a long trek home afterwards.
Try Londontown website for accommodation.

If you are staying over a weekend, look for a hotel in the City, they tend to be aimed at business people from Monday to Thursday and tend to be a lot cheaper with some very good quality rooms from Friday to Sunday night

You'd be crazy to drive, however if you do fly, remember to bear in mind the train charges from the airport to Central London. Stansted may be a cheaper option flight wise but the train in is far dearer then the tube in from Heathrow
