My bro is getting a new laptop,so is giving me his old one. So,was wondering what is the best value broadband only deal at the moment?Dont want phone line or TV deal.I would mostly use internet for mailing, downloading music, watching videos.Dont mind having to sign up to 12 month contracts.I hear 3 are doing a good deal?Im in Dundalk so coverage should be good. Thanks!
After that it depends what is available in your area and in your house, phone, wireless, TV Cable. For example my phone line fails, so my opinions are limited.
It may not be a question of what deals are available, but what is physically available and meets your requirements:
DSL/Phonelines - I realise you don't want to tie in to a cable/phone contract, but I believe some you can get the Broad band on its own. However....your line needs to be good enough. That is, I'm 3 miles from Dublin city centre I couldn't avail of either because of lack of infrastructure.
3/O2/vodafone - check with others in your area as to what the speeds are like. I'm with O2 (30 Euro a month), but there's a 10G a month limit - I don't know if this applies with 3 or vodafone.
Wireless - check what's in your area, but be aware that you may have similar limits as with the 3G options.
If you want to watch videos streaming, 10G *may* not be sufficient for you. In addition, the speed of the 3G. Mine is variable - sometimes it's perfect for video, other times forget it.
Not too sure about what would be best, in depends on what you need. I opted for 3 mobile broadband (€20 pm) again it is a 10gB dowload limit as with O2 but I have yet to hit that limit (I wouldn't be downloading films or anything though, and rarely music files) . The reason I opted for 3 was because I travel quite frequently to the UK and with 3 there is no additional roaming charge once you are under your 10gB limit. Again speed varies but I have had few issues with it in that regard.
