Best Site for Family Tree research

Anyone know good site for tracing family tree. I tried ancestry.co.uk and com but they seem mainly USA and UK.
 
Have you tried the Geneological Office in Kildare Street Dublin or old Parish Records in your area.?
 
Most of these ancestry/sites charge big bucks for anything but the most basic 'what-does-my-family-name-mean?' queries. Have you tried Nosey Joe's suggestion? (time-consuming, but free — and probably quite an interesting experience!)
 
Jeez Dr M but you are on the button again. tried a few of those sites and guess what? I dont exist.
